Gibson Memphis ’64 1964 ES-330 Historic Reissue 2015 – Vintage Burst, Flame Maple Top,Back & Sides. Excellent condition 9/10.

In 2015 the Gibson Custom Shop Memphis produced 150 of these 1964 historic reissues of the ES-330. This particular guitar is unusual as it features an intense flamed maple top, back and sides. A historically accurate reissue from the glory years of Gibson’s now sadly defunct Memphis factory. At 6.2lbs on our scales this one really does have it all!

Memphis guitars are now attracting a premium in the second-hand market, especially these highly flamed 330s, which are difficult to obtain new or second-hand as they made so few of them. This particular model is the year that Gibson Memphis moved to historically correct wider, flatter frets, in contrast to the tall, narrow frets that they had used up to that time. Not only is the fret wire on these later guitars more historically accurate, it also makes for a much nicer playing experience.

The body features the later narrower “horn” contours and a beautiful 3 tone sunburst finish from the post ’63 period. Quite a unique guitar to see with intense flame maple on the top, back and sides. The guitar has been used and played with the utmost care, there is a small ding to the headstock corner and thats about all we can find with nothing major to speak of.

Not only does it look fantastic, it sounds and plays exceptionally well across the board as you would expect. These 330s are super underrated, lightweight and versatile guitars. The hardware & electronics are in excellent working order with the nickel hardware in great shape.

The guitar includes the original hardshell case with period correct yellow lining, Memphis ceriticate and inspection card.
