Gibson Les Paul Deluxe 1972 Gold Top. Excellent Original Vintage Condition 9/10.
One of the coolest guitars we’ve had in. This early two owner 1972 Les Paul Deluxe has the more desirable pre-74 specs and being one of the earliest models it has the early pancake body, the three piece neck with smaller volute and smaller heel profile. The gold is also somehow “darker” and more vintage than later guitars, sounds silly but it really is. There are some tiny areas where the bronze used in the gold paint is beginning to oxidise and thats about it. It is in excellent condition for a 51 year old guitar with no excessive wear, there is the usual natural ageing patina, odd dings and blemishes. There is pitting and tarnishing to the hardware you’d expect. The binding is yellowing nicely as you’d hope given its age! Even has the cool factory installed “goof rings” which make it more desirable to some!
The guitar blacklights perfectly with no modifications, breaks, overspray or repairs. It has some minor buckle rash and clouding to the nitro clearcoat at the reverse and side of the guitar which is visible and the odd ding here and there but it is in exceptional condition for its age, definitely one of the cleanest well looked after examples we’ve seen. The guitar plays beautifully with no issues. The original frets are in decent shape with some minor wear that does not currently affect the playability. Please inspect the photos carefully as they are a really good reflection of the condition.
The guitar is all original aside from the switch tip and an unbranded case from the 80s. The original tailpiece, bridge, pickups and tuners are intact which is unusual on these guitars as typically the tuners are changed for replacement units. The guitar stays in tune and intonates well and really does sound fantastic plugged in. The original Patent Number mini humbuckers and pots are present dating to Week 51 of 1972 with original Sprague black beauty capacitors. The pots remain smooth and do not “crackle” or need replacing. The reflector knobs are also original equipment.
This one really does have it all and we’ll be sad to see it go. In lovely clean “vintage” condition, unmodified and no breaks or repairs. All the character you’d want from a vintage Les Paul!
The spec includes classic mahogany/maple/mahogany pancake body with maple cap, a comfortable medium profile three piece neck and dark tight grain Rosewood board with chrome hardware including the original tuners! The original Gibson patent number mini humbuckers sound beautifully warm with some fantastic tones on offer as you’d expect.
Guitar will be well packed and sent fully insured. Thanks for viewing!
