These guitars are are getting more and more scarce in this kind of condition and re-known amongst Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page fans alike. This is the very first signature model Jimmy Page ever produced with Gibson and these are only ever increasing in value – so a great investment as well as having multiple tonal options on tap.
Based on the legendary Led Zeppelin guitarists original 1959 Les Paul, this guitar is part of the first run Gibson produced with Page from 1995 to 1999. The model proved to be very popular and would lead to many further collaborations between Page and Gibson through the years. This 1990s edition was the very first Jimmy Page Signature model, based on a Les Paul Standard with a highly figured top, custom neck profile, custom colour and using the first Gibson ceramic pickups. It features Jimmy’s signature on the pickguard, gold hardware, Grover tuners, and push-pull knobs for coil-tapping/phasing options.
It’s easy to see why the model became so popular with this example in particular featuring a figured, tight flame maple top; solid mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays and finished in a light honey burst that really shows off the exceptional flame of this guitar. Hardware is Gold plated throughout from the Kluson tuners to the ABR-1 and stoptail, the plating is in excellent condition with no wear and no pitting. The Jimmy Page signature cream pickguard is in excellent condition with minimal wear.
The electronics allow for an amazing 21 tonal variations thanks to the volume and tone knobs push-pull function, three-way-switch and uncovered Gibson 496R and 500T humbuckers. The guitar retains its clear plastic control layout controls. The headstock front hasn’t got the usual haze and lacquer lift you typically see on nineties Gibson finishes either. The only thing of note to speak of is a very minor ding to the back of the guitar (pictured). Otherwise the guitar is in exceptional condition for a 30year old guitar.
The guitar plays really well across the board. The signature ‘Page’ neck profile is comfortable, slim without being unnecessarily skinny. Frets are in excellent condition with no wear. Like wise the finish is excellent with no knocks dents or wear aside from the mentioned minor ding to the back of the guitar. The guitar sounds excellent, it of course excels at Page infused Rock and Roll but thanks to the switching system this is one versatile Les Paul. The switching in itself becomes very intuitive after little time.
The factory Gibson Custom Shop case supplied with the guitar is a nice additional detail. This typically happened in very late 96 when Gibson ran out of the green lined “Gibson” standard case, this meant you’d get a Gibson Custom Shop case along with the all important Page signature green shroud.
Guitar will be well packed and sent fully insured. Thanks for viewing!
