This is a rarely seen one owner late 1980’s ES-335 with rare Ebony fretboard. Yes Ebony! It is very unusual to come across an ES-335 with an Ebony fretboard on an ES-335 from the late 80’s, let alone see one for sale! The guitar is completely original and unmolested, just as it left Gibson’s Nashville factory back in 1989. The condition is excellent for its age all over – no significant knocks, chips, dings or dents, a really well looked after example in excellent condition with just some typical lacquer checking. There is a slightly deeper lacquer check near the pickguard (see photos) this is only visible in direct light. Obviously this is now a 35+ year old lightly used guitar so do expect some very minor playwear and superficial marks only adding to the vintage vibe.

The guitar is gently ageing as you would expect with nothing too harsh or unexpected to report at all. The Neck is dead straight, truss rod checked and functioning fine with plenty of life left in the original frets. As with all our guitars it has been re-strung and setup to factory specs for the new owner.

The guitar plays and sounds great with a comfortable ’60 profile neck. The original Bill Lawrence humbuckers sound fantastic, really one of the pickup designing greats! The pickup covers and hardware has taken on a slightly duller patina with age but all hardware is generally still quite shiny. There have been no modifications, breaks or repairs to the guitar.

The guitar comes complete with its original Tan Gibson case with Pink Furry Shroud, original check card and receipt. The Case is functioning fine with some nice Patina, the latches have dulled over the years. The pictures tell the rest of the story.
