Gibson Custom Shop ’59 Les Paul Standard R9 1959 Historic Reissue 2013 Sunrise Tea Burst VOS – Mint Condition 9.75/10
This particular R9 has been an under the bed “case queen” and seldom been played over the last 10 years as far as we can see. It has just the odd sign its been used and thats it, no dings, scratches, dents or damage. Other than the fact the guitar is “used” the guitars condition is fantastic. If we’re being very critical – the case has a few small marks.
In 2013 Gibson had a good year with the reintroduction of solid Rosewood boards from 2012, introduction of historically accurate Aniline dyes, no sleeve truss rods and new custombucker PAFs with bumblebee capacitors. All the usual features carried over including exact duplication of the neck profile and top carve from an original ’59 Burst along with the long neck tenon, lightweight tailpiece, lightweight 1 piece body and neck. The finish is very thin and looks as good as we have ever seen from Gibson. All 2013 guitars feature hot hide glue construction, a historically accurate ’59 hand finished top and neck carve and are fitted with historic parts, with period correct hardware and electronics.
This one has a really nice top and very in-keeping with the period of the more subtle flame tops. Its a nice wide, ribbon flame with some absolutely gorgeous marbling to it. Looks much more like the original guitars rather than the massively wide crazy flame tops you sometimes see on these, very traditional and in-keeping whilst exceptionally beautiful. It is very 3D with tons of movement (also making it very difficult to photograph!) All woods are hand selected and graded with tight grain and marbling as you’d expect on the very best in the Gibson line.
It has a great vintage look and looks highly accurate with the VOS finish, gorgeous maple top and Historic parts. The tone is pure magic. This one can do it all and is particularly rich and full sounding while still retaining its clarity, not to mention its fantastic condition.
