Gibson Custom Shop Nashville ES-335 1963 Re-Issue. Small block inlays, Ebony 2009 – Very Good Condition – 8.5/10 (re-fret).

This guitar really is gorgeous, a nice lightweight body with period correct slim horns and a dark rosewood fretboard. It features period correct “window” centre block, hot hide neck joint and ’63 neck profile. Really nice accurate historic coloured binding, nicely ageing now too.

The guitar is in very good condition – the reason we say this is because it has had a recent pro refret with period correct fretwire and features a non-original pick guard (original included), historic spec faber bridge and lightweight tailpiece. Everything else is original. With the guitar being black theres just the odd minor blemish here and there associated with a 10 year old used guitar, these marks can only be seen in direct light. There is no significant damage or dings to speak of on the guitar body or neck.

Featuring a 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple body with a Maple centre block and Spruce bracing, it’s finished in the lesser seen Ebony. Delivering a rich and authentic tone, the ’63 ES-335 is super resonant and beautifully balanced; it just oozes that real Gibson mojo and is ageing nicely now.

The neck is something special, crafted from Quartersawn Mahogany; it features a gorgeous bound Rosewood fingerboard, embellished with pearloid small block inlays. With 22 frets, a 12″ radius and a 24.75″ scale length it feels smooth and comfortable, equally at home playing slick lead work or heavy chord strumming.

A pair of 57 Classic humbuckers deliver those classic ’60s tones, deep, rich and resonant they offer great clarity. These PAF style pickups are our favourites, slightly underwound and feature unbalanced coils for a truly historic sound. Much nicer (in our opinion) than the equally great MHS humbuckers now found on these guitars.

This particular guitar is an absolute gem and plays beautifully – If your looking for a playable historic 335 that stands out, this is the one. It’s an excellent player and in very good condition with a recent pro refret, no dings, dents or knocks.

The original Gibson hardcase and custom shop handbook is included as pictured, there is no COA with the guitar but we do have verification emails from Gibson confirming the guitars authenticity.
