Gibson Custom Shop Nashville ES-335 1963 Re-Issue. Small block inlays, Tobacco Sunburst 2004. Excellent Condition. 9.5/10.
This guitar really is gorgeous, a nice lightweight body with period correct slim horns and a dark rosewood fretboard. It features period correct “window” centre block, hot hide neck joint and ’63 neck profile. Really nice accurate historic coloured binding, nicely ageing now too.
The guitar is in excellent condition and has been used with the utmost care or cased for most of its life. Everything on the guitar is original with no modificiations. The only blemish we can find is around the E and B string on the holly headstock veneer, these marks can only be seen in direct light. There is no significant damage or dings to speak of on the guitar body or neck.
Featuring a 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple body with a Maple centre block and Spruce bracing, it’s finished in the most sought after tobacco sunburst. Delivering a rich and authentic tone, the ’63 ES-335 is super resonant and beautifully balanced; it just oozes that real Gibson mojo and is ageing nicely now.
The neck is something special, crafted from Quartersawn Mahogany; it features a gorgeous bound Rosewood fingerboard, embellished with pearloid small block inlays. With 22 frets, a 12″ radius and a 24.75″ scale length it feels smooth and comfortable, equally at home playing slick lead work or heavy chord strumming.
A pair of 57 Classic humbuckers deliver those classic ’60s tones, deep, rich and resonant they offer great clarity. These PAF style pickups are our favourites, slightly underwound and feature unbalanced coils for a truly historic sound. Much nicer (in our opinion) than the equally great MHS humbuckers now found on these guitars.
This particular guitar is an absolute gem and plays beautifully – If your looking for a historic 335 from a good era of Gibson made in the sought after Nashville custom shop this is the one that stands out.
