Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection ’57 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Darkback 1993, 1st Year, 1st Run – Antique Gold, Factory Gold Hardware – Excellent Condition 9.5/10.

If your jaw isn’t already on the floor this highly sought after and somewhat rare example of a first year, first batch 1957 Historic reissue with factory gold hardware has been well cared for and hardly played. It has been sat in its case under a bed for many years! There are no significant dings, scratches, dents or damage other than the minor blemish at 12th fret on the back of the neck (see images or review our site for more detail). Other than the fact the guitar is “used” the guitars condition is exceptional considering it’s 30 years old.

The custom shop program began in 1993 with the ’57 historic reissues being some of the first guitars ever to leave the custom shop. These early models are re-known amongst collectors and players as using some of the best woods money can buy. 93-98 custom shop guitars are rarely seen for sale, let alone in this kind of condition with this being the 180th R7 ever made! A solid investment into Gibson history, with its exceptional condition, rare factory gold hardware and harder to find dark-back finish.

This one has an unbelievable finish and is very in-keeping with the early custom shop ethos of “nothing but the best”. It is highly unique with darkback finish and matching gold hardware throughout (likely a custom order or perhaps built for an early tradeshow/promotion in store). All woods are hand selected and graded with tight grain and high figuring as you’d expect on the very best in the Gibson line.

Its gorgeous historically accurate gold finish with darkback, maple cap and early Historic parts take care of the looks but it also sounds superb at 10.6lbs! The tone really is pure magic. It is particularly rich and full sounding, whilst still retaining its clarity and is in fantastic condition. The guitar is supplied with period correct Gibson brown pink lined case.
