Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection ’58 R8 1958 Les Paul Standard Plaintop Reissue 2012 Washed Cherry in 9.5/10 Excellent Condition.

The guitar looks, sounds and plays exceptionally well as you’d expect from the very best of the Gibson Custom Shop Historic collection. The guitar is nice and resonant, setup nicely and with a big sound.

The guitar weighs in at 9.5lb with its cherry sunburst plain top looking very true to the originals. The two piece maple cap has some beautiful marbling and looks fantastic. Condition wise the guitar is excellent and completely unmodified. The frets and electronics are perfect, the guitar has been exceptionally well looked after and hardly played in its 10years in existence. When played the guitar has been used with the utmost care, you’ll notice there is no buckle rash, no marks etc only some ageing to the colour done by Gibson with the VOS finish. The only negative we can find is that the case has some fading to the outer (see. image).

The quartersawn one-piece mahogany neck has the chunky 58 Historic C shaped profile – comfortable, and very manageable. The rosewood fretboard has a beautiful tight and dark grain. This particular example lacks the usual binding bleed on the neck, meaning Gibson allowed it to dry enough between coats, which can only be good news! The pearloid trapezoid inlays bring it all together and really do look superb – Such a cool instrument.

The humbuckers have the harmonic complexity and tonal range that you expect from a guitar produced in Gibson’s golden age. The bridge pickup has cut and snarl while still cleaning up nicely and delivering a smooth and balanced midrange, while the neck pickup has more warmth, pairing well with the bridge when both pickups are engaged. The electronics work perfectly and the guitar sounds absolutely superb.
