Gibson Custom Shop 1963 SG Special Reissue – Excellent Used Condition 9.5/10.

Simplicity and lightweight at its absolute best – this SG sounds fantastic and is unbelievably light and resonant at sub 6lb. We love this SG!

The guitar features all the fantastic historic features you would expect from a 63 reissue custom shop guitar: one piece body with VOS finish, all mahogany construction, indian rosewood fingerboard, bound neck with C shape 63 profile, 2 lovely hot sounding custom voiced soap bar p90’s and the period correct “lightning bar” wrap around tailpiece not seen on previous re-issues. As usual the attention to detail from the custom shop for 2020 is fantastic with exemplary craftsmanship and finishing.

The only things to note with the guitar is there are some minor pick marks on the scratchplate and cover of the bridge pickup (as you would expect on a used guitar), other than that it’s a fantastic example with no dents, dings or damage to speak of at all.

P90 Soap Bar:

First introduced in the early 1950s, Gibson’s legendary P90 single coil pickup produced a raw powerful tone that helped define the blues and rock and roll in their formative years. Today, the P90’s traditional combination of high output and brilliant tone is still considered a favorite among many top musicians. Known by such familiar nicknames as the “Soapbar” and the “Cobalt,” the P90 still cuts through any type of music, all while displaying amazing tonal sensitivity for everything from blues and rock to mellow jazz riffs. It’s perfect as a vintage replacement, and features vintage, braided two-conductor wiring. It’s also fully wax potted to eliminate any chance of unwanted microphonic feedback.
