This particular R0 has been very well looked after and is in excellent condition throughout. This one has a beautiful top and is very in-keeping with the later slim neck 1960 “Burst” period. It’s a nice ribbon flame with a slight chevron to it and isn’t quite book matched – just like the originals. It is very 3D with tons of movement, lovely grain and mineral deposits here and there as you’d expect on the very best in the Gibson line.

The colour is the great looking faded tobacco VOS. You don’t see too many in this colourway as Gibson made fewer guitars with this finish, just like they did in 1960. The previous owner wanted an R0 that looked accurate with a really nice top but in the all important faded tobacco finish. There’s none of the “binding bleed” usually seen on these either which means Gibson gave the guitar enough time to dry between lacquer coats.

The guitar has a great vintage look and looks highly accurate with the VOS finish, gorgeous maple top and Historic parts. The tone is pure magic. This one can do it all at. It is particularly rich and full sounding while still retaining its clarity and is in fantastic condition throughout.

The guitar stays true to all of the original instrument’s features and characteristics, including Gibson’s traditional hand-carved “figured” maple top and solid, and non-weight relieved mahogany body. The headstock is made from Holly head veneer, as opposed to fiber, just like it was in 1960, and the vintage-style tulip tuners are mounted in a straight line, also as they were on the original.

The 24 ¾-inch scale length neck is made from one solid piece of mahogany, and attached to the body using a long neck tenon – one of the Les Paul’s more distinguishing characteristics of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard outfitted with acrylic trapezoid inlays matching the size and color of the originals.

Of course, two of Gibson’s legendary Burstbucker pickups deliver all the subtle variations of true, classic “Patent Applied For” humbucker tone by using historically “unmatched” bobbin windings and Alnico II magnets. Other historic appointments include CTS potentiometers, bumble bee capacitors, single-ply cream coloured binding on both the top and fingerboard, a period-correct thin toggle switch washer and jackplate, an ABR-1 bridge with lightweight aluminum stopbar tailpiece. Includes the original Gibson Custom case and certificate of authenticity.
