Gibson Custom Shop Historic R8 1958 Les Paul Standard Historic Reissue 2017. Lemon Burst – Excellent Condition 9.9/10.

What a guitar! One of the nicest custom shop examples we’ve had in for a little while. Technically a 1958 R8 with a 59 neck-profile Historic parts and custom Lemon Burst finish.

 

One of the nicest sounding and looking 1958 Les Paul Historic Reissues we’ve had in stock. A beautifully flamed top with plenty of natural marbling along with the Lemon Burst finish really sets it off with some stunning 3Dimensional looks to the wood in different lights.

 

Weighing in at 8.9lbs and being nicely balanced this particular R8 has been played with the utmost care and treasured by its previous owner. Condition wise its essentially an under the bed “case queen” and has been carefully played over the last few years as far as we can see. It has just the odd sign its been played with some binding bleed and fading on the neck, which is normal on these models. No dings, scratches, dents or damage and the frets are excellent. Other than the fact the guitar is “used” the guitars condition is fantastic.

 

In terms of the ever improving 58 and 59 reissues, 2017 was a fantastic year. This particular model features historically accurate body contours from a 1958 guitar with the fantastic addition of the 1959 neck profile introduced in 2017. The neck profile was digitally scanned from the 1959 Les Paul known as “Carmelita” and is still the basis for most 59 necks today. Rosewood fretboards were re-introduced with the introduction of all plastics being “Historic”, featuring accurate profiles, colouration and material composition from original parts using chemical analysis and 3D scanning. The gloss finish is very thin and looks as good as we have ever seen from Gibson. All 2017 guitars feature hot hide glue construction, a historically accurate ’59 wet sanded hand finished top and neck neck carve and are fitted with historic parts, with period correct hardware, electronics and hand wound custombucker PAF pickups.

 

This guitar has a great vintage look and exceptional tone with the polished nickel hardware finish, gorgeous flame maple top and Historic parts. The tone is pure magic. This one can do it all at 8.9lb and is particularly rich and full sounding while still retaining its clarity. Not to mention its fantastic condition.
