A seriously cool, no-nonsense USA-made Strat designed in collaboration with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root and built specifically for heavy music. This is about as far removed from a traditional Strat as you can get, with a stripped-back specification, hardtail bridge and a pair of EMG active humbuckers delivering the kind of huge, aggressive tone this guitar was designed for. This particular example is in exceptional condition and has been used a handful of times with nothing untoward to speak of.

The mahogany body is finished in Flat Black with a satin lacquer finish, giving the guitar a suitably understated and utilitarian look. The maple neck has a comfortable Modern “C” profile and is paired with a dark ebony fingerboard featuring a fast 12″-16″ compound radius. With 22 jumbo frets and no front position markers, the neck feels particularly clean and purposeful, while the compound radius works well for everything from heavy riffing to lead work further up the neck.

Electronics are deliberately simple: an EMG 60 in the neck and EMG 81 at the bridge, controlled by a single master volume and three-way pickup selector. The EMGs provide the tight, high-output response and clarity that make this guitar such a natural choice for lower tunings, heavy riffing and modern metal.

The fixed six-saddle string-through-body hardtail bridge keeps things solid and straightforward, while the locking tuners help maintain tuning stability and make string changes quick and easy. Black hardware, black plastics and the three-ply black pickguard complete the stealthy appearance.

If you’re after a USA-built Fender with serious attitude rather than another traditional Strat, the Jim Root Strat is well worth a look. Big sounding, brutally simple and built to be played hard.
