A seriously cool and increasingly hard-to-find Fender Custom Shop piece here. This 2007 Fender Custom Shop 1961 Reissue Stratocaster comes finished in the iconic Fiesta Red and crucially is a factory left-handed example. Built during a fantastic period for the Custom Shop, this guitar captures everything players love about the early pre-CBS slab-board Stratocasters whilst offering the reliability and playability of a modern instrument. The 1961 model marked an important point in Stratocaster history, combining the classic alder body and rosewood slab fingerboard recipe that helped define countless recordings throughout the decade.
This particular guitar is in excellent used condition and has clearly been cherished throughout its life with just some the odd minor mark here and there (due to the thin nitro finish, see images). The guitar remains completely original and unmodified, presenting beautifully in its vibrant Fiesta Red nitrocellulose finish. As you would expect from a Custom Shop instrument of this era, the attention to detail is superb, from the period-correct appointments right through to the feel of the neck and hardware. The Fiesta Red finish pairs perfectly with the rosewood fingerboard, creating one of the most desirable Stratocaster colour combinations ever offered.
The quartersawn maple neck features a comfortable early-’60s C profile that sits beautifully in the hand. Combined with the rosewood slab board, the guitar feels instantly familiar and inspiring, whether you’re playing chords down low or stretching out with lead lines further up the neck. Acoustically the guitar is lively and resonant, with excellent sustain and that unmistakable Strat snap.
Plugged in, this Strat delivers everything you’d hope for from a great Custom Shop ’61. Bell-like cleans, glassy in-between positions and plenty of bite from the bridge pickup make it an incredibly versatile instrument.
