One of the most important things to happen over at the Fender Custom Shop was the birth of “Relic” instruments. The time machine relics were introduced in 1999 and were Fenders first attempt to bring everything in house from the previous “Cunetto” relic guitars. This particular guitar is from 2011 and is a highly accurate 60 relic in the sought after Fiesta Red finish.

This particular guitar is in excellent used condition and has been played with care over the years. It is complete with its original case, owners manual, hang tags, ashtray bridge cover, tremolo arm, extra springs and the all important Custom Shop Certificate.

If you are still reading this, you know what this is. Something quite special in this condition and highly sought after amongst collectors and players alike. The beautiful yet subtle Relic work oozes quality and really does look like a real 1960 strat. Not over the top and nicely detailed. The guitar features a beautiful lightly flamed maple neck with a lovely tight grain Rosewood Slab fretboard. The neck features the slim 60s C profile with a 7.25 radius we all know and love, really easy to play and super comfortable. The only thing of note is some light divots to the 1st and 2nd fret, making for an even more realistic relic. These do not affect playability and cannot be felt when playing.

Plugged in the guitar sounds fantastic with its handwound ’60 pickups as you’d expect, this one can really do it all and is super versatile. At this time The Custom Shop operation was a much smaller team of highly skilled luthiers back in 2011 allowing for much higher attention to detail during the build process. Every instrument from the Fender Custom Shop during this period was hand crafted and meticulously detailed – afterall the team wanted the “Relic” guitars built in house after the “Cunetto” era relics to sell well.
