A clean, purposeful take on a modern Strat. The 2018 Fender American Special Stratocaster stays close to its the original USA “standard” specification, with a considered upgrade that lifts it beyond stock.

Built in the USA, it pairs a classic 3 piece alder body with a modern C-profile maple neck and 9.5″ radius rosewood fingerboard. This offers a familiar and balanced feel that works across a wide range of styles. The 22 jumbo frets add a slightly more contemporary edge without straying too far from traditional Strat territory. The neck is a joy to play with its satin finish and classic modern C profile, super comfortable from the off and really easy to play.

Where the 2018 examples step up is the electronics. Factory upgraded with Fender Custom Shop Texas Special single coil pickups, it delivers greater clarity and articulation. Fender Texas Special pickups are known for that hot, blues-rock tone characterized by increased output, rich mid-range, and punchy treble, designed to emulate the “smokey” Texas blues tone. They are slightly over-wound for higher output, delivering a tone that excels with overdriven amp settings while maintaining the distinct Strat “quack” in intermediate positions.

Controls remain straightforward: master volume, two tone controls, and Fender’s Greasebucket circuit, allowing you to roll off highs without muddying the overall response.

Hardware is classic and functional throughout with USA made high quality components. A 6-point vintage-style tremolo and sealed tuners provide reliable tuning stability and a familiar playing experience.

Finished in 2-Tone Sunburst with a large ‘70s-style headstock the American Special Strat keeps that classic look understated with a refined playing experience.
